Partyforumseasia:The (young) Partai Demokrat (PD) was established in 2003 by former general Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (“SBY”) and prominent figures from military, business, academia, and civil society organzations. SBY’s success in the presidential elections 2004 and his re-election in 2009 have helped to propel the PD to be the biggest party in the Indonesian Parliament (People’s Representative Council) with 150 out of 560 mandates.
