Partyforumseasia: The Singapore People’s Party was founded in 1994 by a faction leaving the Singapore Democratic Party. Dominating figure was lawyer Chiam See Tong, the longest serving opposition MP in Singapore (27 years for the Potong Pasir constituency). In the 2011 GE his wife Lina Chiam lost this constituency narrowly with 49.64% and accepted a Non Constituency (NCMP) mandate, offered to the “best losers”.
