Partyforumseasia:The party was formed in 2003 as a merger of Parti Keadilan Nasional (National Justice Party) and the Parti Rakyat Malaysia (Malaysian People’s Party). Since de-facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, former Finance and Deputy Prime Minister, was involved in an ominous law suit and politically neutralized, the PKR was headed by Anwar’s wife Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. The party is multi-racial and campaigns for social justice and against the perceived corruption under the dominance of UMNO and the National Front (Barisan Nasional) Coalition.
PKR is observer member of the Liberal International.

Party structure:

Mandates: In the 2008 election PKR won 31 seats in the Federal Parliament, but later lost some of them by defections to the ruling coalition.
